Accessibility Made Easy: Trusted Shops Now EAA-Compliant – What It Means for Your Shop

Starting June 28, 2025, a new EU law will come into effect: the European Accessibility Act (EAA). This regulation is designed to ensure that all consumers — including people with disabilities — can access and use digital products and services without barriers. If your shop sells to customers in the EU, this regulation affects you.

🛠 What Is the EAA, and Why Does It Matter?

The EAA is an EU-wide law that requires certain digital products — including online shops — to be accessible to everyone. This means, for example, that websites must:

  • Work with screen readers
  • Allow keyboard-only navigation
  • Use high-contrast visuals to improve readability

It applies to all shops that target EU countries, no matter where the business is based.

✅ Example: A Swiss shop selling to Germany must follow EAA rules. A Swiss shop targeting only the UK does not.

The goal is to create a more inclusive internet — and make sure your shop doesn’t miss out on millions of potential customers.

🟠 Good News: Trusted Shops Products Are Already Compliant

We’ve done the work so you don’t have to. Our Trustbadge®, review widgets, and the review questionnaire have all been updated to meet the requirements of the EAA.

What’s changed?

  • Orange stars: Our famous yellow stars are now orange — a color that meets strict contrast rules.
  • ⌨️ Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements can now be used with the tab key.
  • 🧑‍🦯 Screen reader compatibility: All components include text and labels that screen readers can interpret.
  • 🖥️ Improved structure and color contrast: Every component is designed to be easy to use for people with visual or motor impairments.

These changes are already live. If you’re using default Trusted Shops integrations, you’re good to go.

⚠️ Do You Need to Do Anything?

In most cases, no. But if you’ve made custom changes, please check the following:

You may need to take action if:

  • You’ve customized the color of your Trustbadge or review stars.
→ Make sure the colors meet accessibility contrast standards.
  • You’re using a legacy or custom integration.
→ Contact your developer or your Trusted Shops account manager to check compliance.

💬 Why This Matters

Accessibility isn't just a legal requirement — it’s also good business.

  • More than 87 million people in the EU live with some form of disability.
  • Accessible websites are often easier to use for everyone, including on mobile devices.
  • Following the EAA protects your shop from potential legal risks and broadens your audience.

✅ Summary

Trusted Shops has made all its integrated products compliant with the European Accessibility Act. If you’re using our standard components, no further steps are needed. If you’ve made customizations, we recommend a quick check to make sure your setup is fully compliant.
